Luqman Culture & Knowledge Center

LE-FEBM vzw is a socio-cultural community organization of Ethiopian and Belgian Muslims of Ethiopian origin. It was established in July 2009 and has been serving its members and the bigger community at its reach in different ways. The organization has outlined diverse objectives to realize and services to deliver. However, the level and diversity of services it managed to deliver so far has been by far limited. Despite the fact that different factors are interplaying, the lack of a fixed center to organize its activities has been identified as one of the critical problems.

In recent years the community is blessed with children and their number is increasing. The foundation is put under extra pressure and urged to create a suitable environment for them to play, socialize and learn and practice their religion and culture. The foundation will not be able to provide these basic needs of the next generation as long as it has not its own center.

The financial requirement for the center would vary greatly depending on the site/town. Big cities and central locations might be too expensive to consider. However, given the purpose and service the center is expected to provide, a location that has a good transport connection and a town that is relatively central for the members of the community will be preferred. While the final decision will rest on our success of the fund raising, Ghent will temporarily be considered as a town of interest in working out a financial estimate.

Based on data gathered online, a M² of building costs an average of 750 to 1000 euro. With this consideration a fund between 600, 000 – 800, 000 euro will be required to realize a building with the above-mentioned functionalities in and around Ghent.

The foundation acknowledges that raising that amount of money would not be an easy task to realize. It is possible that we opt for an intermediate step whereby we will be able to meet our immediate challenges and create the possibility to speed up our effort to meet the required financial demand. In this regard we may buy a property which could be renovated later.

Members’ Contribution

Members of LE – FEBM shall contribute 1000 euro each over a maximum of one year. Further individuals who are financially able to contribute more are encouraged to do so on voluntary basis. This last contribution shall serve as an initial financial capital to develop the project proposal.
Members of LE-FEBM shall also be encouraged to take an individual initiative to reach out their families and friends to contribute financially and/or raise fund for the project.

Ethiopian Muslims’ Communities in Europe and North America

Ethiopian Muslims communities in the diaspora especially those in Europa and North America will be contacted and requested to organize fundraising event for the project.
Up to 60 – 75% of the required finance is expected to be raised through this initiative.

Continuous Campaign through Social Media Outlets

There shall be an online campaign to raise fund. To that end a website will be developed and social media and GoFundMe accounts will be created. The website will be up to date information on the progress of the fund raising, have portals for campaign materials and column to accept feedback. The website will an official channel for interacting with the bigger community and engage them to contribute to help us realize the project.

Sponsorship

At advanced stage application shall be introduced to Flemish Community and other local non-governmental organizations like KBF for possible sponsorship and support.
We hope to cover the financial gap between what is required and what we managed to raise through our various campaigns.
